Freedom Weekend - surfboard fishing 070311

Got there on a low tide.  I had a great paddle out, didn't even get my hair wet.  Went to the kelp beds first, fished some kelp stringers, said 'hey' to some paddle boarders going by.  Those paddle borders are crazy, I see them out another 1/2 mile from where I am at, past the cattle boats, and that's pretty far out.

Some good tugs near the kelp, but no wall hangers, so I drifted over to the reefs and started hooking a few bass, but it was pretty much a scratch bite.  I started actively hunting and paddled my way to high heaven and ended up with eight bass.  All fish were checked and released, except one Calico kept for my efforts.

As the fishing died down, I made my way in, stashed my bag and pole, and went surfing.  Small waves, 1-3, but some fun rides down the line, glassy water, and crystal clear.  A smooth bottom turn, a couple of cut backs, and a long wave into the beach will manifest in dreams.  Nice way to die.

But I cannot forget all who gave their lives for freedom from oppression, past and present, and future.  They didn't (will not) die so well.
